    Q. Who are the creators of L.E.A.N. Programs?

    A. William Sears, MD., or Dr. Bill to his patients co-wrote the program with Sean Foy, MS. and Exercise Physiologist and Behavioral Coach. Dr. Bill has been a pediatrician for over 35 years and is the proud father of eight children, a cancer survivor and world renown author of over 40 bestselling books. Dr. Sears is a medical and parenting consultant for multiple organizations and has made over 100 television appearances on shows such as Dr. Phil, Oprah, 20/20, CNN and Dateline. www.askdrsears.com Sean Foy, MS., is the president and founder of Personal Wellness Corporation and has recently authored the 10 Minute Total Body Breakthrough, a revolutionary tool focusing on using interval training.  Sean’s work has involved him with companies such as: Amway, Boing, Boys & Girls Club of America, Nutrilite, St. Jude Medical, State Farm and Taco Bell.

    Q What is the goal of the L.E.A.N. Program?

    A. The goal of L.E.A.N. Workshops is to educate and inform every parent about simple techniques they can implement in their everyday lives to help their children develop and maintain a lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise habits, as well as positively impacting and improving their children’s learning and behavior. L.E.A.N. Workshops teach parents how to impact their children by shaping young tastes, modeling healthy behaviors and practicing healthy shopping, food preparation and eating behaviors.  As a result of educating parents, children develop healthy habits that improve their behavior and academic performance and allow them to grow into healthy and happy adults.

    Q. Is this program only for those who are overweight?

    A. No! This education is relevant for individuals old or young, of all shapes and sizes. Rather than being another diet, an emphasis is placed on empowering families to develop and sustain a lifestyle of healthy living.

    Q. Who attends L.E.A.N. Classes?

    A. L.E.A.N. Workshops are mainly focused on providing Parents and caregivers the needed tools and information to help them keep their child’s body and brain working its best.  Educating parents and caregivers is important because they are responsible for shopping and cooking for the family as well as modeling healthy behaviors.

    Q. Where are workshops taught?

    A. Workshops are customizable and are appropriate to be taught in a variety of settings including :

    Q Is there any scientific data demonstrating the effectiveness of L.E.A.N workshops?

    A: In 2007, Dr. Sears launched the first official L.E.A.N. Start workshops in conjunction with the Children & Families Commission of Orange County in California. During its launch, over 1,200 participants were surveyed and the compiled data demonstrated that on a scale of 0-5, after taking part in a L.E.A.N. Start class parents and caregivers were very confident in their ability to:

    Encourage kids to drink more water 4.69
    Encourage kids to play and be more active 4.61
    Prepare healthier foods 4.55
    Exercise at least 3 times a week 4.34
    Prepare low fat food 4.31
    Eat foods with a lot of fiber 4.24
    Eat smaller portions 4.23

    In addition, participants rated the presented information. On a scale of 0-5, patents and caregivers found that the information about nutrition and exercise presented through the interactive classroom experience was very useful.
